Welcome to the Mompeo International Film Academy (MIFA), created around the filmmaking vision of director Adrian Bol — a vision centered on clarity, courage, and the power of personal storytelling.
Here in Mompeo - one hour from Rome - filmmakers from around the world come to learn, create, and grow, guided by real working directors, writers, and artists in the extraordinary village of Mompeo, Italy.
For Adrian, filmmaking is not just a craft. It’s a journey of focus, inner strength, and creative rebirth. The Academy was built to help you experience that same transformation.
Whether you're just beginning or ready to take your screenplay, your short film, or your career to the next level, this is the place where your vision becomes real.

Completed Projects
Together, our students have brought over 145 projects to life, created with clarity, precision, and a shared passion for storytelling.

Inspire filmmakers, honor authentic stories, and create a learning space where creativity and craft meet.
Creating Stories that Matter
In the medieval village of Mompeo, creativity flows naturally from the landscape — stone alleyways, open skies, and a quiet that invites imagination. At the heart of this setting stands Viva Mompeo, and within its ancient castle the Mompeo International Film Academy has found its home.
Studying filmmaking inside the castle transforms learning into an immersive experience. History surrounds every lesson, offering a sense of depth and presence no classroom can match. Students often describe their time here as stepping into a story that helps shape their own.
Filmmaking in Mompeo follows the rhythm of the village: slower, more attentive, and deeply connected to place. Each walk, discussion, and moment of stillness becomes part of the creative process, allowing ideas to form with clarity.
The castle now also hosts our Writers’ Retreat, giving storytellers the chance to work in a setting where inspiration feels immediate and unavoidable. Here, creativity doesn’t need to be forced — it rises from the world around you, finding a natural home within these walls.

Escape to the medieval castle of Mompeo (one hour from Rome) for an intimate, all-inclusive retreat designed for writers who want space, clarity, and creative renewal.
With only four participants, this experience offers a rare blend of solitude, mentorship, and inspiration in one of Italy’s most peaceful hilltop villages.
You’ll write inside ancient stone rooms, share ideas over meals prepared for you, explore the village’s quiet pathways, and receive personal guidance to develop your project with confidence.
Everything is taken care of — lodging, meals, workshops, and daily one-on-one sessions with Adrian Bol — so you can focus entirely on your story.

Adrian Bol is the founder of the Mompeo International Film Academy (MIFA) — a filmmaker known for the action thriller Legacy of Lies, which reached #2 on Netflix in the United States, and for his work with cinematographer Andrzej Sekula (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, American Psycho).
A writer-director with a distinctive cinematic style, Adrian brings decades of experience in storytelling, directing, and visual craft. His mission is to train filmmakers to think boldly, create with clarity, and tell stories that resonate with truth, depth, and purpose.
Produced on a $4.5 million budget, the film punches well above its weight, showcasing how precision, craft, and intent can rival far larger productions. Its international scope and contemporary relevance give it a modern edge, while its stripped-down approach keeps the tension personal and immediate.
That combination clearly resonated with audiences. Upon release on Netflix, Legacy of Lies quickly climbed the platform’s charts, reaching the #2 spot in the United States and #4 in the United Kingdom — a notable achievement for an independent spy thriller competing alongside major studio titles.
The film’s performance cemented it as a standout example of how focused, director-driven genre filmmaking can break through in a crowded streaming landscape.

What sets Breaking Cover apart is its mythic visual language. Drawing heavily on elemental symbolism — water, fire, forest, and darkness — Bol crafts a film that feels both grounded and operatic. Each environment reflects a stage in Will’s internal journey, transforming action set pieces into moments of psychological and moral consequence.
The film goes far beyond genre mechanics, unfolding as a stark meditation on fatherhood, trauma, and the cost of violence. Set against the unforgiving wilderness of rural Oregon, Breaking Cover follows Will Fisher, a former Special Forces operative haunted by his past and estranged from his teenage daughter, Tee.
With Breaking Cover, Adrian Bol proves his ability to fuse muscular action filmmaking with thematic depth, delivering a film that is as emotionally resonant as it is viscerally gripping.
